A typical souvenir of Barbados is a bottle of rum. Rum has been produced on the island since the 17th century.
The outstanding rum loses no comparison in quality and bouquet with best brandy. Especially the brand
"Mount Gay Extra Old" is known as delicious.
Taxfree articles such as parfum, jewelry, batik-textiles and bathing fashion can be acquired at the
airport, around the harbour and in many taxfree shops. Better get your goods during your
holidays because there is not such a wide selection at the airport. You might need to show
your passport and flightticket while shopping. If you buy alcohol or tobacco you will pick
it up packed at the airport when leaving. Please watch the customs allowences.
Also native artists offer handmade ceramic and mahogany arts. Original pots (monkey jars)
and vases get produced by Chalky Mount.
Souvenirs with spicy notes and long lasting are bajan hot sauce and bajan seasoning.
Handling with black coral, tortoise shells and feathers of rare birds is forbidden as written
in the Washington protection contracts. Also be carful not to buy 'Conks' (Big shells) or take corals home.
